My Mission Explained
What is a Labor and Delivery nurse?
Labor and delivery (L&D) nurses help to care for mothers and newborns before, during, and after birth. Patients will look to them for information, reassurance, and guidance in handling their labor experience. This means that L&D nurses will monitor both mom and baby; track and measure contractions; proactively assess and address the mom's needs (pain interventions, medicine administration and other support); and assist the provider in delivering your baby; and take care of mom and newborn immediately after delivery.
What is a Doula?
A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support during your pregnancy and childbirth. Doulas are not medical professionals and cannot offer medical care.
What is a Labor nurse & Birth Coach?
A birth coach, in my scenario, is the best of both worlds. I will get to know you and your partner early on in pregnancy, so we build a strong confident relationship. I will educate you in all 4 trimesters of your pregnancy from a medical and emotional standpoint, to empower you to feel alive in your new role as a mama!
Statistics for having a birth coach?
The American Pregnancy Association has conducted multiple studies that show that having a professional doula or birth coach as a member of your delivery team can:
decreases the overall cesarean rate by 50%, the
Decrease the length of labor by 25%,
Decrease the use of oxytocin by 40%,
Decrease the requests for an epidural by 60%.
A Cochrane review also showed an extremely high number of positive birth outcomes when a doula was present.
